Potter Raper at The Warm Up: Panel, Breakouts and the Future of the Retrofit Workforce

We were proud to play an active role at The Warm Up which took place on 30th June.

This is an industry event focused on inclusion, workforce development and ensuring fair access to the employment and training opportunities emerging by the Warm Homes era.

The event brought together housing professionals, training providers, employers and sector leaders to explore how the industry can build a more inclusive, accessible and future-ready retrofit workforce.

Leading the Conversation

Our Operations Director, Nicola Tilbury, chaired the main panel discussion: How do we ensure fair access to the employment and training opportunities of the Warm Homes era?

The panel brought together voices from across industry and education to examine how opportunities can be made accessible to everyone, from entry-level roles through to skilled technical positions.

What was clear from the panel was, that there is so much being done to offer training around retrofit, it’s just a matter of how this is communicated with people looking for work, securing a stable pipeline of work without relying a grant funding was another import issue raised that would attract new people into the industry” – Nicola Tilbury

Nicola also co-led the Allyship in Action breakout session, exploring what meaningful allyship looks like in the workplace. The session drew on the Male Allies UK Allyship Framework and encouraged discussion on how organisations can embed allyship into everyday behaviours.

These were really enjoyable sessions, sharing the concept of allyship with those who attended was a privilege and thanks to Guy Hanell, Area Director at Morgan Sindall for sharing some of his personal experiences with the audience” Nicola Tilbury

Breakout Session: Training and Access Routes

Our Associate Director and Head of Sustainability, Mitzi Watt, helped deliver the Training and Access Routes breakout session alongside colleagues from NCC, Good People and the Retrofit Academy.

The session examined what training and career pathways in the sector genuinely look like, exploring:

  • What training opportunities are available and how people find and access them
  • Whether these routes are open and accessible to all
  • What support is needed to help more people enter the retrofit sector
