We provided Quantity Surveyor, Contract Administrator, Building Surveyor and Principal Designer services to University College London for the refurbishment of 22 teaching spaces across the university’s Bloomsbury Campus. Delivered by contractor GD Construction (St Albans) Ltd with M&E specialist Alpine Works Ltd, the works covered rooms within Foster Court, the Christopher Ingold Building, and the Medical Sciences and Anatomy Building.
Completed Works
Works commenced on site in April 2026 under a JCT Intermediate Building Contract with Contractor’s Design and completed in September 2026, ready for the start of the new academic year.
The refurbishment programme included:
- Redecoration and finishes
- New writing boards and acoustic panels
- Upgraded AV technology
- Furniture replacement
- Accessibility improvements
These upgrades were delivered across Foster Court, the Christopher Ingold Building and the Medical Sciences and Anatomy Building.
Our Role
We acted as Quantity Surveyor, Contract Administrator, Building Surveyor and Principal Designer, overseeing cost management and financial reporting, weekly site inspections, issuing contract instructions, and coordinating design and construction matters between UCL, GD Construction and the specialist installers throughout delivery.
Looking Ahead
With the refurbishment now complete, students and staff are returning to upgraded teaching spaces featuring improved decoration, furniture, audio-visual technology and accessibility. The project forms part of UCL’s rolling programme to refresh its teaching estate year on year.
