Work Anniversary – Chris Spiller

A big congratulations to Chris Spiller, who is celebrating 20 years with Potter Raper!

Chris is a Board Director and Building Surveyor based in our Beckenham office, having joined Potter Raper in 2006. With over 25 years’ experience in surveying, Chris has built on his skills to lead the Building Surveying department and has delivered a wide range of contract and professional surveying services for both public and private sector clients throughout his career.

Chris has managed projects across many sectors at all stages, developing specialist expertise in traditional and non-traditional construction, detailed damp and mould defect analysis, heritage and conservation, decarbonisation and retrofit, and laser scanning and 2D/3D modelling services.

Some of Chris’s recent notable commissions include:

  • A non-traditional housing refurbishment contract for Thurrock Borough Council involving structural, energy efficiency, and aesthetic upgrades
  • Management of Hyde’s defect analysis technical services framework
  • The repair and partial restoration of Dorset Hall, a Grade II listed Georgian building with links to the Suffragette Movement
  • Large multi-disciplinary refurbishment commissions in Greenwich and Haringey, building on the knowledge and skills gained over many years

For circa 14 years, Chris has served as Strategic Project Manager for Thurrock Council, overseeing their £100m+ Transforming Homes Capital Works Contract, with plans already under way for a further five-year programme.

Chris continues to be at the forefront of the industry’s decarbonisation drive, leading on residential PAS 2035 and non-residential PAS 2038 retrofit services, as well as surveys and associated works under the Building Safety Act 2022, with a particular focus on the golden thread and electronic data recording.

Since joining Potter Raper in 2006, Chris has:

  • Progressed to Board Director, leading the Building Surveying department and overseeing a wide range of public and private sector commissions.
  • Served as Strategic Project Manager for Thurrock Council’s £100m+ Transforming Homes Capital Works Contract for circa 14 years.
  • Led specialist services including heritage and conservation, decarbonisation and retrofit, damp and mould analysis, and laser scanning.
  • Kept pace with evolving legislation and industry innovation, including the Building Safety Act 2022 and PAS 2035/2038 retrofit standards.
