This month, we’re delighted to recognise Mike Newman for his outstanding contribution at Potter Raper.
Mike joined our Beckenham office in October 2017 through our in-house traineeship programme. Having previously worked as a High Court Bailiff, Mike wanted a change of career and started at entry level, training with us to become a Clerk of Works, before progressing through Senior Clerk of Works to become our Head of Clerk of Works in 2026. His career with us is a strong example of how our traineeship programme helps people build a career in construction, whatever their starting point.
With 9 years’ experience working across the public and private sector, Mike has delivered projects ranging from stock condition surveys and refurbishments to housing association properties, leisure centres and a large-scale new school built to Passivhaus specification, broadening his understanding of the regulations and standards applied across different sectors.
Mike holds an NVQ Level 6, is MICWCI qualified, and is currently working towards MCIOB status.
As head of Clerk of Works, Mike leads, mentors and develops the team, while continuing to provide day-to-day Clerk of Works services. His role includes carrying out site inspections, monitoring workmanship and quality, and ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with approved plans, specifications and Building Regulations.
We share our Employee Spotlights because our people are our greatest asset. As an Employee Ownership Trust, everyone at Potter Raper is personally invested in our success, bringing dedication, accountability, and care to every project and client we serve.
Thank you, Mike, for your leadership, technical expertise and commitment to raising standards across our Clerk of Works team.
