October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, a chance to learn more about dyslexia and to recognise the strengths that dyslexic colleagues bring to our teams at Potter Raper.
Dyslexia is a common, lifelong neurodevelopmental learning difficulty. It primarily affects accurate and fluent reading, spelling and writing, and involves challenges in phonological processing, connecting sounds to letters, as well as wider information processing. It can also affect memory and organisational skills, and it exists on a continuum, meaning it looks different for every individual.
Dyslexia isn’t a question of intelligence. People with dyslexia often have average or above-average intelligence, and it is estimated that around one in ten people in the UK has some degree of dyslexia, making it far more common than many people realise. Many dyslexic thinkers bring real strengths in visual thinking, problem-solving and spotting the bigger picture, skills valued right across our industry.
As an Employee Ownership Trust, every one of us has a stake in Potter Raper’s success. That shared ownership is part of why inclusion matters so much to us. When everyone has a voice and a stake in the business, understanding how different minds work becomes everyone’s responsibility, not just a policy on a page.
We are committed to building a workplace where every member of our team can do their best work, regardless of how their mind works.
During Dyslexia Awareness Month, we encourage everyone to take time to learn more about dyslexia and the importance of creating environments where different ways of thinking can thrive.
We are Potter Raper. We Listen. Solve. Deliver.
