We are pleased to share that the Sherfield Building Level 3 Reconfiguration project at Imperial College London has been nominated for a Considerate Constructors National Site Award. The ceremony will take place on 1st May 2026 at The Brewery, London, where we will be attending alongside our project partners BW, Stace, and Imperial College London.
This nomination recognises the collaborative effort and high standards demonstrated throughout the delivery of this complex scheme, which formed a key part of Imperial College London’s wider strategy to expand teaching capacity and enhance the student experience.
About the Project
The project delivered new lecture theatres, teaching rooms and study spaces to expand Imperial College London’s overall teaching capacity in particular its expanding undergraduate programme. The scheme transformed Level 3, previously a combination of open‑plan study space and faculty offices, into modern, flexible learning environments designed to support the College’s wider operational and academic growth.
To facilitate the increased loading from the new teaching spaces, significant structural works were required on the occupied floors below. This included strengthening the concrete frame using carbon fibre wrap to reinforce existing columns, as well as forming new openings across multiple levels.
The project also supported the relocation of Professional Services teams from the Sherfield Building to alternative accommodation, enabling the effective repurposing of the floorplate. Delivered within a compressed programme and alongside active building operations, the scheme demanded careful coordination, structured commercial management and close collaboration with Imperial College London and the wider project team to maintain progress and minimise disruption.
Our Role
Potter Raper acted as Quantity Surveyor and was involved from Stage 1, negotiating the Contract Sum with the main contractor and supporting the project through every stage of delivery. Our responsibilities included:
- Full cost management services
- Monthly cost reporting and accrued cost summaries
- Budgeting for all project and fee costs
- Advising on acceleration measures to support programme delivery
The project successfully completed in September 2025.
Looking Ahead
We look forward to attending the awards ceremony with BW, Stace, and Imperial College London and celebrating the hard work and dedication that contributed to this nomination. We wish the project every success at the 2026 Considerate Constructors National Site Awards.
