Potter Raper Partnership         fits the bill...

Training and Development

Potter Raper Partnership encourages and facilitates training at all levels to maintain professional standards and improve knowledge base of the staff. The Partners and senior management team see the improvement of training as a key asset in retaining staff and maintaining the Practice in the forefront of the surveying profession.

Each discipline leader is responsible for ensuring that appropriate training and development plans are maintained for individual employees. This is to ensure that competence requirements continue to be met. We recognise the importance of securing a committed and competent workforce and aim to encourage the development of individual skills and abilities to enable staff to progress within the company and encourage them towards the achievement of their full potential.

The training and development plan may include a mix of:-

  • Training courses and professional qualifications
  • Seminars and lectures
  • Active participation in professional bodies
  • Attending or delivering papers at conferences
  • Secondments – within Potter Raper Partnership or to our Client's organisations
  • Mentoring and/or shadowing experienced employees
  • We have an extremely good track record for motivating, training and retaining staff. We believe that, as well as technical training, it is very important to create a workplace that is friendly, challenging and professional.

Our Practice is a privately owned Partnership with all staff being internally promoted. All our Partners have worked their way up from staff level. There is always an opportunity within Potter Raper Partnership for staff to work their way up within the practice.

Graduates, mature students and school leavers
We are proud to employ graduates and help support them through their APC. We see graduates as the future of our business and are keen to ensure that trainees receive enough support and training to satisfy both the requirements of RICS and their future development.

We offer work based training and day release, funded by our Practice (subject to eligibility), for school leavers and mature students to help them achieve their diploma, degree or post graduate qualification. In addition we provide Stage 1 training for school work experience placements, year out students and graduate exchange programmes.

We currently have two senior members of staff who are qualified APC assessors and provide advice to our graduates on obtaining chartered status as well as facilitating mock interviews and reviewing their final written APC submission documents.

    Continuing Professional Development
As part of the RICS requirement all RICS members must undertake and record online a minimum of 20 hours of CPD (continuing professional development) activity each calendar year, we provide in-house lectures which are arranged on a regular basis. These lectures meet the CPD and pre-qualification structured learning requirements of the RICS. It is our Practise intention to continue to develop a robust and stimulating programme of CPD seminars aimed at bringing technical staff up to date with changes in legislation and practice, materials, systems and techniques.

    Individual Development
Individual annual appraisals often identify various skills, training, or areas for development both inside and outside the technical roles which may be needed. These can include Presentation Skills, IT training, Report Writing and Management/Supervisory training. Our Practice fully supports individual development and we help each employee set targets and aims for their personal development.
